Offering Descriptions

We welcome students of all levels to all of our classes! Each class is an adventure in pranayama (breath work), asana (physical) practice, and meditation. Each instructor contributes his or her unique style, so please read our Creative Team Biographies  for more information about BYC leaders.

The dominant style of BYC offerings is Hatha Yoga- a blend of many styles- and is characterized by a slower practice with fewer poses that are held for a longer duration. Our offerings focus on stretching the larger muscle groups of the body by building heat through flow, and then holding poses to work the deep tissues. Hatha yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites. Ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon,” which refers to the balance of masculine aspects—active, hot, sun—and feminine aspects—receptive, cool, moon—within all of us. A number of our teachers also lead vinyasa flow, which is a little faster and more physically challenging.

If you have any questions just email us.

HATHA FLOW: Tuesday/Thursday at Hahn Garden, Thursday at Hethwood.

These classes are great for beginners and seasoned practitioners. Verbal cues guide foundational, classic postures with an emphasis on breath, alignment, and transitions. Tuesday/Thursday classes may feature vinyassa flow (with Erin Ross, Amy Epperely, or Emma Thornberg), deep stretch flow (with Maureen McGonagle or Kacy McAllister) or chakra/gemstone yoga flow (with Erin Doty Senger). On Thursday at Hethwood you’ll find a slow vinyassa flow (with Alania Colpitts).

MIXED LEVELS: Monday at the Farm ON PAUSE FOR WINTER

This class offers the most variety, including advanced poses for seasoned practitioners. Focus continues to be on the breath and alignment. This class may feature deep stretch style (with Maureen McGonagle or Leia Jones) or a more physically challenging practice.
