We welcome students of all levels to all of our classes! Each class is an adventure in pranayama (breath work), asana (physical) practice, and meditation. Each instructor contributes his or her unique style, so please read about our Creative Team Members for more information about BYC teachers.
We all strive to lead classes that are great for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners. Verbal cues guide foundational, classic postures with an emphasis on breath, alignment, and transitions.
The dominant style of BYC offerings is Hatha Yoga- a blend of many styles- and is characterized by a slower practice with fewer poses that are held for a longer duration. Our offerings focus on stretching the larger muscle groups of the body by building heat through flow, and then holding poses to work the deep tissues. Hatha yoga is a path toward creating balance and uniting opposites. Ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon,” which refers to the balance of masculine aspects—active, hot, sun—and feminine aspects—receptive, cool, moon—within all of us. A number of our teachers also lead vinyasa flow, which is a little faster and more focused on strength building.
